“I simply loved how we moved from topic to topic throughout the day and found this an excellent pedagogical style. Rather than sticking to one topic all day long and it becoming tired and monotonous, this method kept all parts of our brains and bodies and spirits engaged throughout any given day.”
– 2022 Training Student

Our program prepares students to take the MBLEx Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination, which is the universal massage licensing method in the United States to become a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT). Students will also be prepared to sit for the CESI Certification Exam for Structural Integration to become a Board Certified Structural Integrator (BCSI).

The Soma Institute is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education provider under #450420-07.

Soma Institute Attendance and Religious Accommodations Policy

Attendance in the Soma Principles module is required 70% of the time. Attendance in the Soma Training module is required 100% of the time. The staff will consider individual exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

The Soma Institute will do its best to support all students. Students are allowed to observe holidays for reasons of faith or conscience or for organized activities conducted under the auspices of a religious denomination, church, or religious organization, without academic penalty due to absences. It is the policy of the Soma Institute to reasonably accommodate students’ religious observances in accordance with RCW 28B.137.010.

Faculty will reasonably accommodate students who, due to the observance of religious holidays, expect to be absent or endure a significant hardship during certain days of the course or program. “Reasonably accommodate” is defined as coordinating with the student on scheduling examinations or other activities necessary for completion of the program, and includes rescheduling examinations or activities or offering different times for examinations or activities. Standard tutoring fees for additional class time will not be applied to rescheduled examinations or activities unless the student takes more time than allotted on the original schedule.

Any student seeking reasonable accommodations must provide written notice to the Soma Institute within the first two weeks of the beginning of the certificate training, as specified on their enrollment agreement. Written notice may be in the form of email and the official date will be the send date recorded on the email. Written notice must include the specific dates of absence due to religious accommodation.

Examples of Reasonable Accommodations:

  • Request to turn in a paper early, prior to a due date that conflicts with religious observation.
  • Request to adjust the date of exam due to conflict with religious observation on a particular date.
  • Request to reschedule a required activity that is necessary for completion of the course or program.

Reasons to deny a request could include:

  • Student would miss too many class periods and would be negatively impacted.
  • Request would require the instructor to change course requirements for the requester and the student is expecting different course content or requirements due to their absence.
  • Student is asking for accommodation to extend outside the dates of their religious observance or holiday.
  • Request would create an inequity among students in the class or could lead to abuse of sharing exam questions. For example, if a student is asking to take an exam in the evening as an accommodation, ideally they will take the exam the night before, as opposed to after the day it was given, and the instructor should not be expected to create a separate exam for them.
